Contagious Generosity

One of our Faith and Finances participants was overcome recently when she was told that her car repair bill was going to be $2500. There was just not enough money in her budget to fix the car. To get from place-to-place she was carrying water to pour into her water pump.

She mentioned the repair need to her Ally in class, and we were able to cover her repair cost through the generosity of a Cornerstone donor who had recently shared his heart to assist single mothers in need of car repair. We connected with a local garage and shared the car dilemma and the generosity of the repair gift. The garage agreed to do the repair at a lower amount and matched the generosity of the gift by cutting their hourly service cost in half for the repair. Because the repair was done through the generosity of a donor the participant was then able to complete an additional $500 of repairs on her own.

When I (Tony) asked her about the car recently, she smiled and said, β€œIt runs like a new car!” You could visibly see that the burden had been lifted! We are so grateful for our anonymous donor and for the repair shop who recognized this moment as an opportunity to extend generosity.

Car repairs continue to be a consistent roadblock for our participants and their budgets. If you feel led to gift an amount designated to a car repair fund, please contact Executive Director Debbi Akers at debbi.akers@cornerstone-al.org and we can discuss the details.
