Meet Briana

As a single mother, Briana is completely dedicated to her little girl. She absolutely loves being a mom and believes her four-year-old daughter is her inspiration behind everything she does! At 29, she has been working since she was 16 but now feels the heavy weight of providing for her daughter.  Briana came to CornerStone as an applicant for our F&F class, knowing that she needed extra support and wanted to head in a new direction.  Briana was excited to learn as much as she could about finances and budgeting and was even more excited about having a mentor.

Because she was so open to others investing in her life, Briana was paired with not one, but TWO allies, Brandy and Latoya, who supported her throughout the semester. The three of them quickly formed a strong bond inside and outside of the classroom.  You could usually find them huddled together at their table while taking notes and sharing personal experiences.  Briana was always eager to come to class and learn about finances – but also eager to spend time with Brandy and Latoya! They continually encouraged each other through their texts and prayers and Briana’s faith grew as they shared not only scriptures, but their very lives and supported her on this new journey.

Through CornerStone’s collaboration with Redstone Federal Credit Union and St. Vincent de Paul, Briana was able to participate in a program to relieve the burden of her predatory payday loan debt. Briana is now one step closer to providing financial stability for her daughter. She is determined to tackle her debt and make the sacrifices needed on the path toward flourishing.

Brianna is also a participant with Habitat for Humanity of the River Valley. Her brand-new home is currently under construction and is set for completion this winter. You can be sure that her entire class, her allies, and the CornerStone staff will be there to celebrate with Briana and her daughter on the day she receives the keys to her new home!
