Affirming Dignity

Recently I was speaking with a Faith and Finances alumni and asked him to tell me something good that had happened to him lately. With a straightened posture  and a smile on his face, he said, “I purchased all my family AND extended family presents for Christmas…and they were REAL presents…stuff THEY wanted that I could give to them because I had budgeted and kept on budget all year.”

He continued, saying, “I could not have done that without Faith and Finances.”

C’mon!

Our small gathering heaped praise on this young man and I was reminded of this quote by Dr. John Perkins,

“You don’t give people dignity. You affirm it.”

He had done the work.

He owned his dignity.

I was just happy to have the chance to affirm it.
